LifeLabs Employees' Heartfelt Support for Autism Awareness with Jake's House

April 30, 2024 – LifeLabs employees recently joined in a heartwarming display of solidarity and compassion for Autism Awareness Month. The team organized an event to raise funds and awareness for Jake’s House.

Jake’s House is a Canadian charity dedicated to supporting families living with autism. It offers a range of programs and initiatives, including social events, mentoring, employment opportunities, and housing initiatives, all aimed at creating a supportive community for those affected by autism.

The event was sparked by Amanda McCauley, a supervisor in specimen management at LifeLabs, who wanted to make a difference and raise awareness for autism. Her passion was shared by Keri VanBussel, a senior logistics manager and co-chair of the Women of LifeLabs ERG, who was eager to support charitable causes and showcase pride in their workplace.

The team came up with a thoughtful plan, including selling specially designed T-shirts and heart-shaped puzzles, symbolizing unity and collective spirit. Each puzzle piece bore the name of the contributor, representing their commitment to the cause.

Organizing such an event required collaboration from various departments within LifeLabs, from the communications team assisting with T-shirt designs to procurement facilitating orders.

The effort was well worth it. The team raised $1,000, and Jake’s House sincerely thanked the LifeLabs team for their initiative in supporting the fundraiser. “We wanted to express our sincere gratitude to you and the entire LifeLabs team for your heartfelt initiative in organizing a fundraiser to support Jake’s House. Your commitment to making a difference in our community truly shines through. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We look forward to the continued collaboration between LifeLabs and Jake’s House as we strive to make a meaningful difference in the lives of families affected by autism.”
