FAQs

A Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT) is a type of viral diagnostic test that detects the presence of genetic material (nucleic acids) of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. The NAAT process involves making copies of the virus’s genetic material, if any is present in an individual’s specimen. NAAT can detect very small amounts of SARS-CoV-2 genetic material in a specimen, making this test highly sensitive for diagnosing COVID-19.
Labs use different methods to amplify nucleic acids and detect the presence of virus in specimen. For e.g., Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), Transcription mediated amplification (TMA), Loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) etc.
COVID-19 PCR /NAAT swab testing: This test uses Polymerase Chain Reaction (type of NAAT) for detecting COVID-19 virus in a sample. Results are available within 48 hours and the price is $150+ applicable tax per test.
Rush 12 NAAT swab testing: This test uses Transcription Mediated Amplification (type of NAAT) for detecting COVID-19 virus in a sample. Results are available in 12 hours and the price is $200+applicable tax per test.

The COVID-19 swab test is a nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT) that detects COVID-19 infection at the time of the test. The test uses a sample collected from the individual’s nose, using a non-invasive swab that goes approximately 1 cm into the nostril. The test does not indicate if the individual had COVID-19 infection in the past.
