LifeLabs’ Erica Zarkovich recognized at the 2021 Canadian Law Awards with an Award of Excellence, and nominated for Canadian Lawyer Magazine’s Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers.

Toronto, ON, July 23, 2021— We’re pleased to share that LifeLabs’ Vice President of General Counsel, Chief Privacy Officer & Corporate Secretary, Erica Zarkovich, was recently recognized at the 2021 Canadian Law Awards with an Award of Excellence for Law Department Leader of the Year.

“I feel very honoured to be recognized at the Canadian Law Awards,” said Erica. “But this Award of Excellence is very much a team award, and I’d like to thank each of my team members for the incredible work they’ve done this past year. This is a high-functioning team, and all of our members have demonstrated great teamwork and agility while working on numerous initiatives, such as quickly developing COVID-related contracts, and seamlessly negotiating with governments and third parties.”

The award recognizes individuals who demonstrate strong leadership skills, and can effectively guide their teams through innovations as well as legal challenges. This was Erica’s first nomination with the Canadian Law Awards; additionally, she was recently nominated for Canadian Lawyer Magazine’s Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers for 2021, under the In-House category, for her work in developing a strong, cross-functional team that worked closely with LifeLabs information security team to develop the organization’s cybersecurity privacy committee, as well as the privacy programs and policies. Results of the winners for each category will be shared in the September issue of Canadian Lawyer.

“Erica is an inspiring leader who has guided her team to achieve a great deal even though she’s only recently celebrated a year with us,” says Charles Brown, President and CEO of LifeLabs. “I am thankful that her hard work, and her team’s hard work has been acknowledged, and that she continues to support our overall goals in empowering Canadians to live healthier lives.”

While dealing with many disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Erica and her team of 11 managed to achieve a number of accolades over the last year.

“It’s been rather exciting to be part of the COVID response team at LifeLabs,” Erica added. “It’s also been a pleasure to watch our team grow together in the last year as we’ve worked to support the organization in the development of new lines of business for COVID testing. Understanding the business requirements and implementing a transferable legal framework very rapidly was a major undertaking for the team, which consists of a blend of lawyers, contract specialists, and privacy specialists.”
