LifeLabs and Abbott Announce Innovative Collaboration to Support British Columbians Living with Diabetes

BURNABY, British Columbia and MISSISSAUGA, Ontario, September 26, 2023 – LifeLabs, the most trusted brand in health diagnostic services* and Abbott, the global healthcare company, have launched an innovative collaboration to support British Columbians living with diabetes and their healthcare teams.

This collaboration, known as the FreeStyle Easy Access program, enables British Columbians to send their FreeStyle Libre® glucose data directly to their healthcare provider’s electronic medical records (EMR) system. As a result, care teams will receive quicker, more convenient access to vital information to inform more individualized treatment plans.

“A key component to supporting Canadians in making informed decisions about their health is offering digital services such as our online health portal, MyCareCompass, that moves the narrative beyond chronic conditions to focus more on the overall quality of life,” said Lawrence Mahan, senior vice president of commercial, business and consumer markets at LifeLabs.

“We’re excited to partner with Abbott to continue offering healthcare providers and their patients living with chronic conditions, like diabetes, greater access to valuable information that will support them in managing their health.”

“Around the world, Abbott’s FreeStyle Libre systems provides over 5 million individuals living with diabetes and their healthcare teams with accurate, actionable insights through connected platforms and apps,” said Luz Herrera, general manager of Abbott’s diabetes care business in Canada. “This collaboration with LifeLabs is an excellent example of how together, we are driving the future of integrated diabetes care to deliver connected, personalized care and ultimately, improve the lives of those living with this chronic condition.”

“In my practice, we care for more than 360 patients living with diabetes. Together, we value effective technology solutions to support individualized care and ongoing information to guide diabetes management and medication decisions,” said Dr. Daniel Ngui, clinical professor of family medicine and director of Fraser Street Medical in Vancouver. “Automatically importing key glucose data and metrics into electronic medical records enables me, as well as other clinicians, to analyze what is really happening for my patients both in and outside of my office walls. This will support more meaningful conversations with my patients and optimize personalized treatment plans.”

LifeLabs and Abbott’s collaboration represents a milestone in the healthcare industry, combining the power of technology and collaboration to meet the specific needs of British Columbians living with diabetes.
