Dr. Abouelhassan joined the LifeLabs Chemistry Medical Scientific Team in 2018. His responsibilities are primarily General Clinical Chemistry testing and include protein electrophoresis and immunoassays.
Dr. Abouelhassan obtained his doctoral degree in Biochemistry from the Faculty of Medicine, Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. His PhD focused on preclinical studies aimed at developing novel drugs and gene therapeutic agents that prevent doxorubicin cardiotoxicity. Dr. Abouelhassan did his postdoctoral research at Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute, Mount Sinai Hospital. His research focused on epigenetic mechanisms of tumor evasion of immune surveillance. He then pursued training in Clinical Chemistry at the University of Toronto where he obtained his Diploma in Clinical Chemistry. He is a Certified Clinical Chemist and a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Clinical Biochemistry. Before joining LifeLabs Dr. Abouelhassan was the Division Head for Clinical Biochemistry at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Health PEI. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology, Faculty of Medicine, Dalhousie University. Dr. Abouelhassan has published numerous scientific papers in peer reviewed journals including Nature Immunology. He also presented his work at National and International conferences and has received multiple awards and scholarships.
