Dr. Yasmeen Marbaniang, MSc, MD, FRCPC, has been at LifeLabs since July 2021 as a Medical Microbiologist and is the Director of the Kennedy Reference Laboratory. At LifeLabs, she first served as the lead microbiologist for the successful validation of the COPAN Total Lab Automation system. Today, she continues to drive innovation by leading the validation of the COPAN Colibri and PhenoMATRIX Select and Tag (AI) solutions across all LifeLabs laboratories.
Dr. Marbaniang earned her medical degree in 1994. Following medical school, Dr. Marbaniang completed her residency in Medical Microbiology at McMaster University. She participated in several significant projects, including the study of the cell-mediated immune response in HIV-1–positive individuals using lymphoproliferative assays. During her residency, she also served as a Research Volunteer at Mount Sinai Hospital. She has also earned a Master’s in Food Safety and Quality Assurance from the University of Guelph.
Before joining LifeLabs, Dr. Marbaniang held multiple roles as a Medical Microbiologist, including positions at Kingdom Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (2009–2010), Woodland Hospital in Shillong, Meghalaya, India (2007–2008), and Bethany Hospital in Shillong (2006–2007). She has also worked at Sullayil General Hospital in Sullayil, Saudi Arabia, and at Riyadh National Hospital in Riyadh, further building her extensive experience in clinical microbiology.
An active participant of the research community, Dr. Marbaniang is a member of the Association for Medical Microbiology and Infectious Disease (AMMI) and of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM). She also maintains an active teaching role as an Assistant Professor (Adjunct) in the Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine at McMaster University.
