Dr. Robert Liao, PhD, D(ABMM), joined LifeLabs in 2017 as a Microbiologist, providing consultative services in Microbiology and Molecular Microbiology across British Columbia. His professional focus is on the development of innovative molecular diagnostic tests to advance patient care.   

Dr. Liao earned his PhD in Medical Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Alberta in 2003. He completed an American College of Microbiology CPEP fellowship in Medical and Public Health Microbiology at Washington University in St. Louis. He has held roles as a Clinical Microbiologist in the Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine at Queen’s University and Kingston General Hospital and served as Director of Microbiology, Molecular Diagnostics, and Serology at PeaceHealth, a reference laboratory supporting a 10-hospital medical system in Oregon, Washington State and Alaska.   

An active contributor to the scientific community, Dr. Liao has published numerous peer-reviewed papers and presented at international conferences. His research interests include Molecular Microbiology, Virology, Serology, and the development of novel diagnostic testing.
