Dr. Jan Palaty, PhD, FCACB, has served as a Clinical Biochemist at LifeLabs since 2005, where he empowers healthier Canadians by interpreting essential lab results, signing out medicolegal urine drug reports, and leading innovations in data mining, method validation, and quality control.
Throughout his career at LifeLabs, Dr. Palaty has advanced patient care by developing innovative solutions to improve workflows and urine drug testing. He has also been an author on several research papers, in collaboration with Vancouver Island University, on paper spray mass spectrometry applied to illicit drug testing.
Dr. Palaty earned his PhD in 1995 from the University of British Columbia, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. His research focused on the synthesis and biological evaluation of novel analogues of the antiepileptic drug Valproic Acid. Following his PhD, Dr. Palaty completed his postdoctoral studies at the University of Toronto, where he pursued a clinical chemistry training program. He is also a fellow at the Canadian Academy of Clinical Biochemists.
Before joining LifeLabs, Dr. Palaty worked as a lab technologist at WorkSafe BC and a clinical biochemist at BC Children’s Hospital.
