For over 25 years, Dr. Colgan has worked with LifeLabs as a diagnostic pathologist and most recently in the capacity as the Discipline Head of Histopathology. Dr. Colgan is a surgical and cyto-pathologist with primary interests in gynecological pathology and has focused his research and practice on the prevention and detection of gynecologic cancers to improve women’s health. His practice at LifeLabs is devoted exclusively to gynecologic pathology and assists in the development and maintenance of LifeLabs’ quality management program in histopathology.
Dr. Colgan received his medical degree from the University of Toronto and undertook additional training at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (Washington, D.C.), McMaster University and Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Colgan has served as Chair of the Curriculum Committee at the College of American Pathologists and is a past member of the Executive Board of the American Society of Cytopathology, a past Chair of the Canadian Society of Cytology and a past President of the Society of Canadian Colposcopists. He consults nationally and internationally on cancer control and collaborated on new guidelines for classifying tumours of the female reproductive organs for the World Health Organization. Dr. Colgan has authored nearly 150 peer-reviewed primary publications.
