Pacific Autism Family Centre Foundation
In December 2015, we
announced our partnership with Pacific Autism Family Centre Foundation (PAFCF). Together, our organizations are working to create a more positive blood collection and diagnostic experience for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their families.
Individuals with more severe autism conditions may need to be sedated to have their blood drawn, which in addition to being traumatic, often delays diagnosis and treatment decisions and increases costs to the healthcare system. Working with PAFCF we will help improve the experience of ASD individuals who need blood work.
Over the next four years, LifeLabs is investing towards the construction of a specimen collection centre within the GoodLife Fitness Autism Family Hub in Richmond, BC. This dedicated space will be specifically designed to accommodate individuals with autism. Our Medical Laboratory Assistants (MLAs) will also be specifically trained to work in a caring, compassionate and appropriate manner with individuals with autism.
