Partnership with Biron will provide expectant mothers with important health information about their baby with a simple blood test
(Toronto, ON) January 17, 2017 - Biron and LifeLabs are pleased to announce a partnership that will make the Panorama Non-Invasive Prenatal Test available to expectant mothers across Québec.
Panorama is a simple blood test that provides expectant parents with vital information about their pregnancy, helping to determine if their baby is at risk of fetal complications and genetic conditions.
"Non-invasive prenatal testing is a safe and easy way for expectant mothers to learn about the health of their babies without undergoing an invasive diagnostic procedure," says Joby McKenzie, Senior Vice President, Business Development, LifeLabs. "LifeLabs has been offering Panorama non-invasive prenatal tests to expectant mothers in several provinces across Canada since 2014 and we are very pleased to extend this service to Québec."
Panorama analyzes cell-free fetal DNA circulating in the mother's blood to accurately screen for common fetal chromosome abnormalities, including trisomy 21 (Down syndrome), trisomy 18 (Edwards syndrome), trisomy 13 (Patau syndrome), monosomy X (Turner syndrome), and triploidy. Panorama delivers the most accurate results of any test on the market and can be performed as early as nine weeks gestation without any risk to the mother or the fetus.
"Biron is proud to partner with LifeLabs to offer Panorama to expectant mothers in Québec," says Réjean Fortin, Vice President, Chief Innovation Officer, Biron. "We feel it is critically important for expectant mothers to be well-informed about the health of their babies and we are excited to be able to offer this service to them."
Non-invasive prenatal testing is one example of LifeLabs' commitment to provide innovations that benefit patients and their families, healthcare providers and governments. Tests can be ordered by health care providers in Québec and consists of a simple blood draw at specific Biron collection centres across the province. Patients should consult with their health care provider to determine if Panorama is right for them.
