LifeLabs Enhances Service to Wasaga Beach Residents

Opening of New Location Means Improved Patient Access to Laboratory Testing Services

Wasaga Beach, ON (July 7, 2008) -- LifeLabs Medical Laboratory Services today announced the opening of a new location to serve the laboratory testing needs of Wasaga Beach physicians and their patients, thereby enhancing local access to important healthcare services.

The new patient service centre, which is scheduled to open July 8, is located at 14 Ramblewood Drive in the new Ramblewood Medical Centre. The new facility is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Prior to the opening of this new facility, local residents were served by nearby LifeLabs locations in Collingwood and Stayner. The new location will offer the same services patients and physicians have come to expect; although now they will be able to access these services much closer to home.

In addition to providing patient specimen collection services in town, LifeLabs’ presence in Wasaga Beach means that local long-term care facilities and residents who are housebound can take advantage of LifeLabs’ house call service, which offers specimen collection in the home.

As a family physician, I know the critical role lab tests play in helping diagnose patients quickly and accurately and, if necessary, putting them on an effective course of treatment,” said Dr. Amar Singh, one of 4 physicians located in Ramblewood Medical Centre. “Improving local access to lab testing services is an important step in improving the quality of care we are able to offer patients.”

“As strong advocates for their patients, local area physicians and municipal leaders played an instrumental role in encouraging our expansion to serve the needs of this growing community,” said Hans Thunem, President and CEO, LifeLabs. “We look forward to working with local healthcare providers to help deliver better outcomes in patient care through the provision of laboratory tests.”

Laboratory testing is integral to the healthcare system. Some reports estimate that lab results constitute about 70% of a patient’s medical record, while up to 80% of all clinical treatment decisions are based on results from laboratory tests. LifeLabs has been serving the healthcare needs of Canadians for nearly 50 years and has been operating in Simcoe County for over 30 years. LifeLabs will continue to serve patients from its other nearby Nottawasaga Bay locations, including:

  • 186 Erie Street, Suite 209, Collingwood
  • 230 King Street N., Stayner

Elsewhere in Simcoe County, LifeLabs also operates in Alliston, Barrie and Orillia. For a complete list of LifeLabs locations, visit www.lifelabs.com/.
