LifeLabs Brings Services to Perth

New Collection Centre Ensures Continuity in Lab Service to Local Patients and Physicians

Napanee, ON (July 13, 2009) -- LifeLabs today opened a new facility in Perth where patients can go to have specimens collected for an extensive menu of laboratory tests ordered by area physicians. The new patient service centre is located at 78-80 Dufferin Street, Unit 165 in the Perth Mews and is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

“We’re pleased to make our laboratory testing services accessible to the residents of Perth,” said Ida Goodreau, LifeLabs President and CEO. ’And we look forward to working in partnership with local physicians and other healthcare providers to improve patient health outcomes in the community.”

LifeLabs delivers a broad range of community laboratory tests, which are used by healthcare providers to accurately assess individual patient needs and identify effective treatments. Laboratory testing is integral to the healthcare system. Some reports estimate that lab results constitute 70% of a patient’s medical record, while up to 80% of all clinical treatment decisions are based on results from laboratory tests.

“Since the transition to the provincial model for community laboratory testing was announced earlier this year, LifeLabs has been working with area physicians to ensure a smooth transition for patients,” said Helen St. Germain, LifeLabs’ Regional Manager for Eastern Ontario. ”Other than a new address for the collection of patient specimens there will be no change to the lab services patients have come to expect.”

Tests performed by LifeLabs which are covered under OHIP are provided free to patients and testing will continue to be conducted within the South East LHIN region. In addition to providing local access to lab testing services through the LifeLabs patient service centre, LifeLabs also offers home visits to housebound patients and long-term care facilities.

Moving to a new location enabled LifeLabs to create a more comfortable patient experience with a larger waiting area and more room to serve patients. The new location is wheelchair accessible, offers plenty of free parking, and is conveniently located in a retail centre that is a short drive from the local hospital.

LifeLabs has been operating in southeastern Ontario for more than 30 years and today has patient service centres in Bancroft, Belleville, Brockville, Kingston, Napanee, Perth, Picton, Smiths Falls and Trenton. Testing is performed within the South East LHIN region at testing facilities in Belleville and Kingston. For a complete list of LifeLabs locations, visit www.lifelabs.com.
